Costa Rica has been since long an early adopter of renewable energy. Since the beginning of 2015, 97% of its electricity is generated by renewable energy sources. Despite the fact that renewable energy can be seasonal, by using an array of renewable energy technologies they have surmounted that bit of the problem.

So as to wean itself on the dependency of fossil fuel, and at the same time not be affected by the seasonality of renewable technologies, Costa Rica is now focussing increasing its focus on thermal energy.
