According to NBC News, Hunter Biden personally showed up for the court in Los Angeles, California, before District Judge Mark Scarsi. The hearing took about thirty minutes.

The son of the U.S. president has complied with prior release terms, Scarsi said, and the court was "evaluating that, and noting it for the record." Scarsi proposed setting June 20, 2024, as the date for the case's trial.

Hunter Biden's taxes were the subject of an investigation by David Weiss, a prosecutor appointed by Donald Trump's administration, according to US media reports in 2020. The prosecutor has investigating a number of financial issues, including potential tax law violations by Hunter and his suspected allies when conducting business with overseas partners, primarily China. Additionally, Biden Jr. may have lied under oath on the acquisition of firearms.

Earlier, Hunter had entered a guilty plea in an attempt to reach a deal. As part of the agreement, he would serve probation rather than go to jail for the tax infraction. Regarding the firearm accusations during Hunter's drug addiction, he could be exempt from prosecution if he didn't commit a significant crime within the next two years.

But the judge wouldn't agree to such a compromise. Hunter's attorneys claimed that the judiciary was under pressure from Republicans. The president's son, meanwhile, may spend up to 25 years in prison for possessing illegal firearms and perjury.
