The organization estimated that 674.6-796.9 million people were hungry in 2021, and 690.6-783.1 million people are expected to be hungry in 2022, according to early figures. Thus, from 738.9 million to 735.1 million persons were on average considered to be hungry.

The UN also points out that, despite a decrease in growth and a slight decline in the number of hungry people, their number is still 122 million people greater than it was in 2019.

This number went up in certain areas. For instance, there are 11 million more hungry people in Africa today than there were in 2021. According to the analysis, international governments won't be able to achieve their aim of eradicating hunger by 2030 if the current trend persists.
