The proposed document from the US Department of Commerce seeks to block the supply of advanced AI chips from Nvidia Corp. to China via intermediaries in Malaysia and Thailand.

The direct export of these items to China is effectively banned.

Sources from the agency indicate that the authorities intend to implement export control measures for Malaysia and Thailand alongside the formal removal of worldwide limits on the export quantities of AI chips, known as the AI Diffusion Rule.
