The Arm AGI central processing unit (CPU) will be made for use in data centers. The company says it's the best CPU for handling the growing number of AI agents—computer programs that can solve problems on their own without needing help from a person.
Server racks equipped with these chips will enhance system performance by more than doubling the capabilities of systems utilizing the latest x86 processors, one of the most sought-after computing platforms in the market. According to Arm's press release, this will enable data center operators to save up to $10 billion in capital expenditures per GW of power consumption.
So far, Arm's architecture has mainly been used by companies that make smartphone chips.
Arm AGI was created together with Meta. This collaboration allows Arm to use its accelerators for training and running AI models. The companies will also work on new generations of the chip. Reuters says the new processors are going to be released every 12 to 18 months.
