"It is imperative that our Union be fully united," said von der Leyen in a video address to the European Union's Directorate General for Neighborhood and Enlargement."Peace and prosperity will come to our continent only if we unite all Europeans under the EU flag."

The European Commission  suggested in March to begin EU accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The agenda of this week's EU summit in Brussels includes a discussion on this topic.

The chair of the EC also mentioned in her speech that negotiations are currently underway with Albania and Northern Macedonia, and that Moldova, Georgia, and Ukraine have already been designated as candidate nations for EU membership.
