The EMPA and MGA must now receive consent from the European Parliament and the Council to take effect.

“Our pacts with Mercosur and Mexico are significant achievements for the EU's economic future. We are committed to diversifying our trade, forging new partnerships, and generating new business opportunities,” remarked EC President Ursula von der Leyen.

She stated, “Companies in the EU and the agri-food industry will instantly gain from reduced tariffs and expenses, fostering economic growth and job opportunities.” The EC President is confident that these agreements will bolster the EU's status as “the largest trading bloc globally.”

The European Commission views the EMPA and MGA agreements as “a crucial element of the EU's approach to expand trade relations and reinforce economic and political bonds with similar partners globally.”
