According to the EC communiqué, “the roadmap foresees the phased elimination of Russian oil, gas, and nuclear energy from EU markets.” EC Chair Ursula von der Leyen stated that stopping Russian energy imports would serve the core security interests of the European Union.
Later in May, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that it was essential to halt the execution of the EU's plans to reduce energy imports from Russia.
