The European Commission (EC) is reviewing the requests from Turkey and South Korea to join the European Security Action for Europe (SAFE) common defense investment program, but no decisions have been made, stated EC spokesperson Thomas Regnier.

"A request has come in from Turkey and another from South Korea. Our services are currently evaluating these requests prior to determining the subsequent actions," Regnier stated during a briefing in Brussels on Wednesday.

He was inquired about Greece's concerns regarding Turkey's involvement in SAFE.

"Our regulations establish protections to stop any third country from acting against the interests of the European Union or its Member States. Thus, without directly referring to Turkey, I want to emphasize that we regard the concerns of Member States with utmost seriousness," Regnier added.

He additionally detailed the procedure for evaluating these requests. Should they be considered suitable and sanctioned by the European Commission, the EC's suggestion will be sent to the EU Council.

"Should the Council grant approval, we can start discussions regarding Turkey's participation in our SAFE program. However, we have not arrived at that point yet," stated Regnier.
