According to IDC, this increase would be the largest since 1996, a year when IT spending patterns were fueled by the release of the Windows 95 OS and the growth of personal computers and the internet.
Currently, it is propelled by AI technologies and huge investments in the advancement of AI infrastructure.
"Artificial intelligence emerged as the leading trend in the IT sector in 2025, although the majority of real investment in AI focuses on enhancing the infrastructure of AI service providers," states IDC Vice President Stephen Minton.
He states that these investments are backed by corporate expenditures on fundamental IT products and services, which account for most of the revenue generated by AI providers.
IDC forecasts that spending by providers on data center infrastructure development will rise by 86% this year, reaching around $500 billion.
