As reported by The Jerusalem Post, the condition of the patient is stable. The virus strain differs from the one responsible for the outbreak on the MV Hondius cruise ship in Johannesburg.

The European strain identified in Israel is solely transmitted to humans through rodents. The South American "Andes" strain found on the MV Hondius is infrequently passed from one individual to another.

Three individuals lost their lives due to the hantavirus outbreak on the MV Hondius: a Dutch pair and a German national. The vessel is presently on its way to Spain, where travelers are being rescued. The MV Hondius had a total of 147 individuals on board—59 crew members and 88 passengers. The most recent data indicates that there are seven individuals infected on the liner.
