Corbyn addresses the parliament for cultivating “more independent” Britain – U.S. ties.

According to the “Labour leader”, Jeremy Corbyn, of the opposition party, Britain requires a “more open and independent relationship with the United States”, if the former is to evade the repetition of the 2003’s scenario, whereby the “invasion of Iraq” took place. Corbyn terms the same incident as an “act of military aggression”.

Corbyn has been a veteran on the side of anti-war campaigner, opposing the “conflict at the time”. Following the much awaited “into the war” report of Chilcot, the Labour leader said addressing the parliament “during a debate on Britain's joining the 2003 invasion”:
"The war was not, in any way, as Sir John Chilcot says, a last resort. Frankly it was an act of military aggression launched on a false pretext, as the inquiry accepts, and has long been regarded as illegal by the overwhelming weight of international legal opinion."
“There are many lessons that need to be drawn from the Iraq war ... They include the need for a more open and independent relationship with the United States and for a foreign policy based on upholding international law and the authority of the United Nations."
