Luxurious First Class Suits for Boeing Dreamliners of British Airways to take off This Week

09/18/2015

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner of the British Airways is ready to accommodate its first customers. Built to reinstate luxury, the cabins are more spacious and completely leather stitched.

They are more spacious too and only 8 suits can be accommodated instead of the usual 14 in other Boeing models.

The flights which would be decked with this plush first class suits include fights to Delhi, Abu Dhabi, and Kuala Lumpur. Forpeople, the London based company that has in the past handled the airline’s branding and product and service design for the past decade was behind the designing and fabrication of the first-class cabin and suite for the Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The suits and cabins would be added to the aircrafts flying to Muscat, Austin, and San Jose, California by November this year.

The new suits have been designed to enhance luxury without adding any extra weight to the aircraft even as the suits appear more robust and showcase new hues and material finish that has dark-grey upholstered seats with diamond-patterned stitching which is also complemented by stitched leather and aluminium details.

The designing of the materials was done in consultation with Pritchard Themis specifically on the cabin’s lighting design so that the effect of both natural and artificial light sources on the materials was taken into account.

The suits have a greater storage space which includes a shelf and a locker with a mirror along with far better acoustics. The cabins and suits were constructed, assembled and installed on the aircraft unlike older versions and the ones in other aircraft models. The passengers would be able to control in-flight entertainment and the position of the seat with the help of a smartphone-like device that is installed in each of the suits. The luxury flight first class suits have a second display screen, apart from a fixed 23 – inch screen, that also acts as a handset which makes it possible for passengers to watch two things at time.

The design of the suits was based on extensive customer feedback.

“Our main aim was to improve upon every detail of the experience based on (the input we received), to deliver uncompromising comfort and consideration around the different ‘modes of living’ a customer performs while on board, and [to give] customers the ultimate feeling of calm and control,” said Richard Stevens, creative director of British Airways and founder of Forpeople.

Stevens added that the people and experts who were asked to review and test the prototypes of the cabins and suits were asked to detail their reactions about every detail of the cabins including storage materials and seat geometry.

“(Forpeople has) such an impressive heritage in high-end automotive, technology, environment and luxury design that, combined with its experience working so closely with us for over 10 years, has translated beautifully to the new cabins for the 787-9,” British Airways’ head of customer Abigail Comber said in a statement.

The aircrafts fitted with the luxurious first class cabins and suits are scheduled to make their first flight sometime later this week, said company sources.
