During its yearly developer conference, the American firm Meta presented new smart glasses featuring a display integrated into the lens.

"This is not a prototype," stated company CEO Mark Zuckerberg in his keynote speech. "This is an actual product, prepared for use, and you will be able to purchase it in a few weeks."

The glasses can be operated with a unique Neural Band bracelet. The price will be $799, and sales are set to start on September 30.

The display in one lens of the glasses will show text messages, video calls, and replies from Meta's AI assistant. Photos and videos must be linked to a smartphone for uploading.

Nonetheless, during a showcase of the new glasses' artificial intelligence features, a malfunction happened, which the company's senior executives blamed on Wi-Fi problems.

Meta launched the initial version of these glasses in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, which owns the Ray-Ban brand, in 2021, yet interest remained minimal. The initial glasses could capture photos and videos, but they didn't have AI. Meta sold around 300,000 pairs of these glasses over a period of 18 months, yet two years later, under 10% were still being actively used.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the second-generation glasses achieved greater success. Meta asserted that they were built from scratch, boasted enhanced camera and audio features, and included novel AI tools.
