The Community-First AI Infrastructure project has several goals, including using less water in data centers and avoiding higher electricity costs from running them.

Microsoft has promised to pay for the electricity needed to build and run their data centers, work with energy companies to increase power supply, make their data centers more efficient, pay for the water they use, create jobs, invest in training AI experts, and not ask local governments for tax breaks on their data centers.

US President Donald Trump supported Microsoft's efforts on energy costs and said his administration is working with Microsoft and other top tech companies on this.
