Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, has obtained another official role in Donald Trump’s administration—his first since the public dispute with the U.S. leader in 2025. As reported by Axios and Fox News, Pentagon leader Pete Hegseth announced the appointment on September 30.

Musk will co-direct a Defense Department analysis on the future of combat, Hegseth mentioned in a speech at the U.S. Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia.

The Pentagon chief mentioned that Anduril Industries founder Palmer Luckey and former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich will join him in leading the study called "Project Meridian."

The aim of this new Pentagon effort is to identify the weapons and technologies that U.S. forces will require for fighting future conflicts.

As per Hegseth, Project Meridian is not designed to create new policy documents; rather, it will highlight "areas we need to dominate and skills we need to excel in." "The effort will concentrate on recognizing, enhancing, and deploying the arms and systems that our children and grandchildren will require over their lifetimes," the Pentagon leader noted.

He observed that the results of the study are expected in 120 days. Although certain findings will be released, there are also arrangements to create a distinct classified report.
