Number of foreign-invested companies in China grows by 6.8% since the beginning of 2026

In January-April, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced a 6.8% rise in foreign-invested companies compared to the same timeframe last year, totaling more than 530,000. As per Xinhua, the total accumulated foreign direct investment surpassed $3.6 trillion.

During the reporting period, more than 20,100 new companies engaged in foreign direct investment were registered. An additional 3,000 firms raised their investment in the Chinese economy.

The actual foreign investment volume is nearing 287.7 billion yuan ($42 billion), reflecting a 10.3% decline relative to the same timeframe last year. High-tech sectors showed an increase, contrary to the general trend, rising 20.3% year-over-year to 116.3 billion yuan (40.4% of the total).

The ministry reports that Luxembourg is leading the largest year-on-year investment growth, having increased 2.1 times. Capital appreciation from Switzerland reached 60.8%, from France 58.3%, and from the United States 24.5%.
