US President Donald Trump has urged Intel Corp. CEO Lip-Bu Tan to step down right away, referencing a “significant conflict of interest” due to his investments in Chinese firms.

“The Intel CEO should step down right away because of a significant conflict of interest. There isn't another solution to this issue,” Trump stated on Truth Social on Thursday.

The prior day, Republican Senator Tom Cotton wrote to Intel's chairman inquiring about Lip-Bu Tan's connections to Chinese firms, along with a criminal case related to the IT firm Cadence Design Systems, which he formerly led.

In April, Reuters reported that Lip-Bu Tan directly or via venture funds he established or oversees, invested in many Chinese firms, including those associated with China's defense industry. The agency reported that these investments totaled a minimum of $200 million from March 2012 to December 2024.

A source from Reuters subsequently stated that Intel's CEO had already retracted from investments in China, although this was not corroborated by the agency's information.
