The state-owned telecommunications company Viettel has started building Vietnam's first semiconductor manufacturing facility.

According to a statement from the company, the construction is expected to be completed and pilot production will begin by the end of 2027.

The construction is happening on a 27-hectare site located in the Hoa Lac High-Tech Park, which is on the outskirts of Hanoi. Local media reported that the groundbreaking event was attended by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Trinh.

Once the plant is up and running, it will be able to provide products to various industries such as aerospace, telecommunications, the Internet of Things (IoT), automotive, medical equipment, and automation.

Viettel has not revealed the amount of investment made in this project.
