With China Set To Dominate, 1 Billion Could Be Using 5G By 2023

It seems to experts that China is all set to lead the next revolution in mobile technology.

Promising users with provide faster data speeds and more bandwidth to carry ever-growing levels of web traffic, 5G or the fifth generation of mobile network doesn't exist yet exist but aims to chive the promises in the very near future.

There will be more than one billion users of 5G by 2023, with more than half based in China, claimed analysts at CCS Insight who also predicted that the technology will be in place by 2020, in a report that was made public on Wednesday.

"China will dominate 5G thanks to its political ambition to lead technology development, the inexorable rise of local manufacturer Huawei and the breakneck speed at which consumers have upgraded to 4G connections," said Marina Koytcheva, VP Forecasting at CCS Insight.

Because of the fact that the United States, South Korea and Japan are among the countries that are all battling to launch the first commercial fifth generation mobile connectivity network, 5G will take off faster than any other previous mobile technology, said the CCS Insight report.

Experts are of the opinion that there are still uncertainties about the technology and the exact technology specifications for 5G have yet to be agreed internationally. CCS Insights said in the report that issues and uncertainties such as consumers' willingness to upgrade their smartphones, the lack of clear business case for operators and how and where network operators will deploy vast numbers of new base stations, are among the primary of the uncertainties associated with this net technology.

The influence of stringent regulators, the availability of spectrum and market fragmentation are among the additional challenges for the technology in Europe.

But progress in the 5G is being attempted to be shown by several technology firms. It had demonstrated the first working 5G data connection on a mobile device, one of the world’s largest the chipset manufacturer, Qualcomm, claimed this week.

Download of data at around 1,000 Mbps will be possible for users using the technology as shown in the speed generated in the test. A 2 hour HD film would be allowed to be downloaded by users in just around 12 seconds by the use of this new 5G technology, suggested one estimate.

The Snapdragon X50 NR modem chipset over a 28GHz millimetre wave spectrum band, was used by the company in their demonstration, Qualcomm said.

Because of the fact that the radio signal at this frequency reportedly deteriorates if data is transmitted over more than a few kilometres, therefore the 28 GHz millimetre wave spectrum band has been described to be problematic.

For other forms of new technologies such as driverless cars, this technology could also turn out to be important.
