Apollo investment firm acquires EasyJet, values the airline at $7.7 billion

Apollo Global Management, a private equity fund, has struck a deal to buy British airline easyJet Plc, estimating its worth at £5.7 billion ($7.7 billion).

A joint press release states that Apollo will offer 715 pence for each easyJet share. The board of directors of the airline unanimously advised shareholders to accept the proposal from the investment firm.

Earlier on Thursday, another competitor for the airline, American investment firm Castlelake LP, declared it was withdrawing its future offers for the company. It proposed 690 pence for each easyJet share.

EasyJet was established in 1995 and became a publicly traded company in 2000. The fleet of the company surpasses 300 airplanes and operates on over 1,000 routes across more than 30 nations.
