The court decision was appealed the day before, on August 25, according to WikiLeaks. There is "significant new evidence" in the complaint, although it is not clear what kind of evidence it is. The journalist's defense was certain that the US government "distorted the essential facts of the case" as they were presented to the British court.

Since June 2012, Mr. Assange had resided on the grounds of the Ecuadorian embassy in London; however, in April 2019, Ecuador cancelled his diplomatic asylum, and as a result, he was taken into custody by the police.

The extradition of the WikiLeaks creator to the United States, where he is charged with disclosing secret diplomatic cables and military cables, was accepted by the UK in June 2022. On March 14, the British Supreme Court rejected Julian Assange's request to appeal the extradition judgment.
