The heatwave impacted the working hours of Britons, who worked on average 30 minutes less than normal during the last week of June, as temperatures in the UK were setting records nearly every day. Participants also indicated low sleep quality and various health issues.
"According to our research, the nation remains inadequately prepared for climate change," stated Elizabeth Robinson, director of the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics.
The authors of the study highlight the absence of air conditioning in office spaces and public transportation, alongside multiple limitations that obstruct the installation of air conditioners in homes.
They estimated that the heatwave in June led to around 2,700 additional deaths in England and Wales.
