China vows retaliatory measures against the US after blacklisting Alibaba and BYD

China's Ministry of Commerce voiced "extreme dissatisfaction" regarding the US Department of Defense's recent inclusion of Alibaba, internet search engine Baidu, and automaker BYD on a list of firms supporting the Chinese military.

The Commerce Ministry stated that China strongly disagrees with this: "China urges the US to promptly cease its erroneous actions, retract the associated measures, and return to the correct course of fostering constructive, strategic, and stable relations between China and the US."

Being blacklisted does not instantly enforce penalties, but it does create limitations. The Pentagon will be barred from directly engaging with companies on the list, and starting in 2027, from acquiring their products or services through intermediaries.

The Ministry of Commerce stated that if Chinese firms do not receive fair treatment, Beijing "will inevitably implement resolute and strict countermeasures."
