Regarding nuclear energy, this will encompass nuclear technology and U.S. exports, specifically small modular reactors (SMRs) for civilian applications. “And currently, we remain at this level of detail regarding the pertinent products,” she stated.

She clarified that “$750 billion covers imports, as well as investments in the energy sector that the United States has committed to at the level of the European Union. Itkonen added that the American side has already committed to investments totaling approximately 300 billion euros.”

She urged journalists to accurately interpret the numbers and avoid stating that $250 billion annually will solely be used for buying hydrocarbon fuels. “That is inaccurate,” she stated.

The explanatory note from the EC regarding the EU-US political trade agreement indicates: “The EU plans to acquire US liquefied natural gas, oil, and nuclear energy products, anticipating a supply volume of $750 billion (around €700 billion) within the next three years. This will assist in substituting Russian gas and oil in the EU market”.
