"Member states and the commission will work urgently on cooperative purchases of gas, LNG, and hydrogen ahead of next winter," the agency noted, citing a draft summit statement from March 24-25.

The countries have agreed to coordinate actions to fill the storage facilities, according to the draft, and plan to begin "as soon as possible," the agency stated.

According to the Associated Press, the leaders will also debate new measures to safeguard consumers from rising energy prices and discuss ways to "optimize" the operation of energy markets. They will also request that the commission adopt the "necessary efforts" to accomplish this.
