Due to a labor shortage, New Zealand will temporarily adjust its immigration policies in order to attract workers. The nation's job situation has gotten worse as a result of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak and the deteriorating economic climate.

As local firms struggle with a labor shortage, New Zealand will relax immigration criteria in an effort to draw 12,000 new workers over the course of the following year. Reuters reported this based on a statement made by Michael Wood, the minister of immigration.

He claimed that the initiatives are intended to support companies that have been "struck by a global labor shortage." The easing of salary regulations for skilled immigrants in industries including elder care, meat processing, building and infrastructure, seafood processing, and adventure tourism is one of them. In order to keep workers in the nation, additional steps are planned for foreigners entering on Working Vacation visas, who will have their visas extended for six months.

Workforce issues are evident across all industries and skill levels, according to Wood. Reuters notes that government is taking the measures despite the jobless rate being 3.3 percent and incomes increasing by 3.4 percent annually (a record growth rate in 14 years).
