Nike's net profit for the first half of FY2021-2022 up by 16%

US sportswear maker Nike posted a 16% year-on-year increase in net profit to $3.211 billion for the first half of its 2021-2022 financial year ended November 30, the company said in its financial statements.

Diluted earnings per share rose to $1.98 in the reporting period from $1.73 a year earlier. The company's revenue for the period rose 8 per cent to $23.605 billion.

Net profit rose 7% to $1.337 billion in the second quarter of the current fiscal. Diluted earnings per share rose to $0.83 from $0.78 a year earlier. The forecast had assumed a figure of $0.63. The company's revenue rose 1% to $11.357 billion. Analysts had expected revenue at $11.25 billion.

The Nike brand's revenue rose 1% in the second quarter to $10.816 billion, driven by growth in online sales (Nike Direct), offset by lower revenue from its wholesale business, it said in a release.
