A monthly treatment regimen (three doses of the medication) will be priced at $499 rather than nearly $1,350 if bought with insurance, reports CNBC. This price will be fixed, featured on the official Novo Nordisk website and in over 70 thousand pharmacies within the GoodRx network. The choice to lower prices was taken amid increasing political pressure on drug manufacturers.

Previously, US President Donald Trump dispatched letters to Novo Nordisk and several other pharmaceutical companies, encouraging them to reduce the prices of their medications.

Since the start of the year, the value of the company, once thought to be the priciest in Europe, has decreased by 44%, now standing at 1.45 trillion Danish kroner ($230 billion).
