Despite the rapid development of renewable energy sources, oil and gas will remain the world's primary sources of energy until 2045, with their proportion of the global energy mix remaining at more than 50%, according to OPEC Secretary General Mohammed Barkindo.

"Some argue that oil and gas should not be part of the future of energy, that they should be a thing of the past”.

"They believe that the future will be dominated by renewable energy and electric vehicles. It is critical to state unequivocally that science does not support such a conclusion. Statistics don't help either", Barkindo remarked.

He emphasized that, while renewables would steadily grow their part in the global energy mix, oil will still account for 28 percent of world energy by 2045. According to Barkindo, the share of gas will have risen to above 24% by then.
