One More EV Battery Factory In The US Being Planned By Panasonic For $4 Bln: Reports
The Wall Street Journal revealed on Friday, quoting people with knowledge of the situation, that Panasonic Holdings Corp., a provider to electric-car maker Tesla Inc., is in discussions to build a supplemental electric vehicle (EV) battery factory in the United States at an expense of about $4 billion.

According to the newspaper, Panasonic is considering Oklahoma as the site for its new plant.

Panasonic chose Kansas over Oklahoma in July to be the location of a new battery plant that would, according to state officials, generate up to 4,000 jobs and an investment of up to $4 billion. View More

Additionally, the Japanese conglomerate disclosed that it was investigating potential factory locations in Kansas and Oklahoma to supply the Texas-based Tesla plant with batteries.

The Japanese corporate has been working with Tesla for over ten years, supplying the first cars' batteries. To meet the increased demand for EVs, the automotive industry has been stepping up production, which has increased orders for batteries and raw materials like lithium and cobalt, among others.

"We are examining various growth strategies for our automotive battery business, but there is no further information that we can share at the moment aside from what we have already announced," a Panasonic spokesperson said.
