South Korea holds presidential election

On Tuesday, citizens of South Korea will go to the polls to vote for the new president of the nation.

Polling stations nationwide will open at 6:00 AM local time and will stay open until 8:00 PM. 

The initial results are anticipated right after the polls finish. The newly elected president will assume office once the final voting results are revealed, anticipated to occur on 4 June. 

Early voting for citizens residing abroad occurred In the nation. During the early voting on May 29-30, 34.7% of the electorate, approximately 15.4 million individuals, participated in the voting process. Approximately 258,000 South Korean citizens cast their votes from abroad. 

The National Police Agency of South Korea assigned 28,590 officers to 14,295 voting locations to maintain safety. The police committed to staying in peak readiness from early Tuesday morning until the new president assumes office. 

The presidential contenders include Lee Jae-myung from the main opposition Democratic Party, Kim Moon-soo of the ruling People's Power Party, Lee Jun-seok from the New Reform Party, and Kwon Young-gook of the Democratic Workers' Party.
