The electric vehicle known as the Model Y L, manufactured at Tesla's facility in Shanghai, features a longer wheelbase and three seating rows, with a price tag of approximately $47,200. Sales in China started on August 19.

"This iteration of the Model Y will not be produced in the U.S. until late next year," Musk stated in reply to a user’s post on the social platform X. "Perhaps not ever, considering the rise of autonomous vehicles in the United States."

The CEO of the company did not clarify how the increase of autonomous vehicles could diminish the demand for a six-passenger vehicle. According to Reuters, SUVs with three rows and gasoline engines have been a favorite among American families for a long time.
