Three Cosmonauts from ISS Returned to Earth

03/12/2015

ISS-41/42 with the commander of the manned spacecraft "Soyuz TMA-14M" Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Samokutyaev, cosmonaut Elena Serova and NASA astronaut Barry Wilmore safely returned to Earth after a semi-space mission. Lander manned transport spacecraft landed at 05:14 Moscow time at 147 kilometers southeast of the city of Zhezkazgan in Kazakhstan.

Before the arrival of the ISS expedition party crew of Anton Shkaplerov (Roscosmos), Terry Verts (NASA) and Samantha Cristoforetti (ESA) should continue to work on the station. A total duration space flight ISS-41/42 was 167 days.

"We do everything normally. The crew got out of the capsule. They feel good. Serova has the best blood pressure measurement," - said Russia Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.

For Elena Serova the flight as ISS-41/42 was the debut. Elena is the fourth in the domestic aerospace woman to orbit the Earth and the first Russian woman to the ISS. The path to the realization of the dream took in about 8 years – in December 2006, she was enrolled in the cosmonaut RSC "Energy" as a candidate for test cosmonauts.

During ISS-41/42 Elena Serova, Alexander Samokutyaev and Barry Wilmore have been working over 50 scientific experiments, maintaining health station and resupplying the ISS with equipment delivered by cargo ships. In particular, Serova successfully conducted a unique experiment "VIZIR", during which she was able to take a picture of any object in the world, so that professionals would be aware of his position, and vice versa - to specify the data to survey the Earth's surface by a special method.

In addition, according to the International Space Station’s flight program, during the expedition were performed such works as maintaining cargo spacecraft "Progress M-24M", "Progress M-25M", "Progress M-26M", European cargo ship ATV-5 «Georges Lemaitre »; preparation for return to Earth of three members of the crew of ISS-40/41 at TPK" Soyuz TMA-13M "; participation in operations management docking TPK "Soyuz TMA-15M" with the ISS to a small research module" Rassvet "(MRM1 ), as well as a spacewalk by the Russian program.

A few weeks later, March 27, 2015, a new crew will travel to the International Space Station by transport manned spacecraft "Soyuz TMA-16M." - Ria News
