The announcement, posted on the US government's website, emphasizes that this action is "a reaction to discrimination faced by American products in Canada."

"We are discussing (...) 50% duties on a wide array of Canadian products – including wine, hockey sticks, and cement," the document highlights.

It indicates that the tariffs will exclude energy products, potash, fish, and rare earth metals.

The new measures will likewise not impact specific goods that are already subject to tariffs.

Independently, the White House released documents clarifying that the goal of the tariffs is to secure better conditions for the sale of motor vehicle engines, dairy products, and alcoholic beverages from the US to Canada.
