According to the statement, 50 commercial ships have been redirected by US forces to implement the blockade.

The US has positioned a strong naval presence in the Arabian Sea southeast of Iran, which includes two aircraft carriers, three large amphibious ships carrying a Marine expeditionary battalion, 13 guided-missile destroyers, and multiple minesweepers.

US President Donald Trump declared last Friday that the blockade will stay in effect until a peace deal is achieved with Iran. Iran describes the blockade as a breach of the existing ceasefire.
