US giant Mars sets to produce pet food in China

12/28/2020

US confectionery and pet food giant Mars plans to build Asia's largest state-of-the-art animal food factory in Tianjin in northeast China, Xinhua news agency reported.

A construction launch ceremony for the project was held in Tianjin early last week. According to the plan, the plant will occupy an area of about 110,000 square meters, and investments in it will exceed $100 million. After reaching full capacity, the plant’s annual production volume will exceed 250,000 tons.

The project will not only bring more competitive pet food to the Chinese market, but will also play a positive role in the joint development of local upstream and downstream enterprises, said the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Zone, where the plant is based.

Mars Inc. is a family-owned business that has been producing a variety of products and offering services for people and pets for more than a century. The company owns many world-renowned brands such as Snickers, Dove and Royal Canin.
