Walmart plans to cut 1,500 office jobs

American Walmart Inc., the largest retailer in the U.S., intends to eliminate 1.5 thousand office positions in the country as part of a strategy to streamline expenses and accelerate decision-making, according to The Wall Street Journal, which references a source.

The firm informed its staff that it will restructure certain teams within its worldwide technology sector, online ordering, and advertising division (Walmart Connect).

“Modifying our organizational structure will enable us to speed up our execution and adjust to an evolving external landscape,” two high-ranking Walmart executives stated in a message to employees.

The WSJ notes that the company is also developing and planning several new roles.

“The reductions are indicative of our strategic priorities and focused business areas, and are unrelated to trade tariffs,” a representative from the company informed the publication.

The retailer revealed last week its intention to increase prices this month and early summer as items affected by new import duties arrive in its stores. That attracted criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump.
