What is really happening with Tesla Motors?

Investors should learn to separate really worthwhile information from other “noise”, which has recently often appeared in the media about Elon Musk’s brainchild.

Tesla Motors has always been in the focus of world attention. Nevertheless, the events of 2018 made their adjustments, as a result of which the information background around the automaker became ambiguous.

News about Tesla began to appear so often that it was difficult to follow them. Elon Musk refused to answer questions from journalists and analysts on the basis of another unprofitable quarterly report, then insulted a diver who saved Thai teenagers, drank whiskey and smoked marijuana during a scandalous interview with Joe Rogan. The US government has charged the entrepreneur with fraud for several false and misleading messages on Twitter about the intention to make the company non-public, and so on.

Due to the succession of unceasing "deeds" of the general director, one might think that the company is already on the verge of bankruptcy. Nevertheless, Tesla's market capitalization is still higher than the cost of manufacturers such as Ford or Fiat Chrysler and $ 55 billion bigger than the capitalization of General Motors, although Tesla sells fewer cars worldwide than GM does only in the USA.

In 2017, Tesla sold 100 thousand cars. By the end of 2018, the company should more than double this figure, largely thanks to one model aimed at the mass market, the Model 3 sedan. If Tesla can maintain the current level of production and the demand for the Model 3 does not fall, then the company can well outrun on sales in the USA of such giants as Volkswagen, Hyundai and Kia.

Elon Musk’s business dynamics will depend on consumers, who increasingly prefer electric vehicles. Now the brand of the company is of great importance, many people buy Tesla cars, simply “because it is Tesla”. Growth of production, as well as the recent opportunity for customers to purchase a budget version of an electric vehicle costing less than $ 100,000, will have a positive effect on auto sales.

The financial condition of the company remains fragile due to heavy debts. However, reporting over the past quarters reflects revenue growth, which may increase as demand for the Model 3 expands.

Thus, the real business indicators in the information plan are more important than the eccentric actions of its founder.
