Apple Inc., based in the US, has requested that at least two suppliers boost production of the standard model of the new iPhone 17 by 30% or more due to a strong surge in pre-orders over the weekend, according to reports from The Information, which cites knowledgeable sources.

This week, Apple requested China's Luxshare Precision to boost the daily output of the standard iPhone 17 by around 40%.

Apple's efforts suggest that shoppers are more likely to purchase the lower-priced base model of the new smartphones than the company anticipated, according to Reuters. The regular iPhone 17 is priced at $799, whereas the higher-end Pro versions begin at $1,099.

The standard version became available last Friday and includes an upgraded display and camera, which were previously only found in the Pro models.
