CFTC chief Benham: Cryptocurrencies may threaten US national security

According to Rostin Behnam, chairman of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), cryptocurrencies may be a threat to US national security.

At a session in the nation's Senate, he declared, "It might be a threat to our national security."

As Behnam outlined, the danger posed by cryptocurrencies is a result of their frequent usage in illegal activities.

Earlier, he added that the US should tighten rules governing trading in digital financial assets and oversee platforms that handle such transactions.

Behnam's lecture was primarily about the demise of significant cryptocurrency exchange FTX. This event aroused speculation about the future of the cryptocurrency market and raised doubts inside the industry.
