China's Premier Li Calls For Closer Trade And Economic Relations With The US
Chinese Premier Li Qiang stated on Wednesday during a meeting with a visiting U.S. team that Washington should refrain from decoupling from China and that Washington and China should deepen their economic and trade connections, according to Chinese official radio.

"Strengthening economic and trade cooperation is a win-win situation for both countries," Li told the delegation led by Chamber of Commerce chief Suzanne Clark.

"Seeking decoupling and building 'small yards with high walls' do not align with the fundamental interests of both sides," he added.

Li stated that barriers were not in the best interests of any party fundamentally and that American businesses were welcome to keep making investments in China.

According to the group, Clark is heading a delegation of former US government representatives to Beijing this week.

The visit coincides with a gradual thawing of tensions between the two economic superpowers following years of hostilities over trade policy, Taiwan's future under democratic government, and territorial claims in the South China Sea.

After the United States shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon a year ago, relations are still mending.
