The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that, beginning on January 1, 2026, producers will need to secure permits for the export of around 300 different types of steel products.

These include various kinds of steel billets, hot-rolled steel, and stainless steel.

Steel exports from China are expected to set a new record in 2025. From January to November, exports rose by 6.7%, reaching 170.72 million tons.

This growth in exports has helped counterbalance the declining domestic demand for steel, which has been affected by the ongoing slowdown in the real estate sector.

Meanwhile, the large influx of inexpensive Chinese steel has led several countries to introduce trade restrictions in an attempt to protect their own steel industries.
