Double Dose Of Sinovac Covid-19 Vaccine And Pfizer Booster Not As Effective Against Omicron, Shows Study
A new study has shown that a double dosage of Sinovac’s Cvodi-19 vaccine followed by a booster shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is able to generate a lower immune response against the Omicron variant of the coronavirus compared to the efficacy generated against other variants of the virus.

The study is yet to be peer-reviewed and was undertaken by researchers from Yale University, the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Health, and other institutions.

According to the study, an antibody response similar to a two-dose mRNA vaccine was produced by the double dosage of the Sinovac vaccine when coupled with the Pfizer shot. The study data showed that the level of antibodies generated against Omicron was 6.3 times lower when compared with the first variant of the virus and 2.7 times lower than those generated against the Delta variant of the coronavirus.

In order to achieve the desired protection levels needed against the Omicron variant, two additional booster doses could be required for people getting the CoronaVac shots, said Akiko Iwasaki, one of the authors of the study, on Twitter.

According to the research that analyzed plasma samples from 101 participants in the Dominican Republic showed that any detectable neutralization against Omicron was not displayed by the administration of the two dose Sinovac vaccine alone.

Not enough antibody response against the Omicron variant was produced by even three doses of the Sinovac Coviid-19 vaccine, showed a study from Hong Kong that was published last week. The study claimed that the shots had to be further boosted by a Pfizer-BioNTech shot to kin order to achieve the "protective levels" that are required against the Omicron.

The CoronaVac vaccine from Sinovac and the BBIBP-CorV vaccine from state-owned Sinopharm are the two most widely used vaccines in China and the most commonly exported COVID-19 injections. The Sinovac and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines have been used in Hong Kong.
