The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, stated on Tuesday that the EU is currently reviewing its Arctic strategy due to the worsening security conditions.

Kallas added that this update is being carried out in collaboration with the Member States.  It will take into account the updated security conditions, with Greenland playing a significant role.  Partnership is essential for ensuring regional security.

"Norway is one of the EU's closest and most reliable partners," Kallas stated during a press conference held with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide in Tromsø.

"China may not be actively purchasing Arctic assets at the moment, but it is gradually increasing its involvement and presence in the region."

"The United States' clear statements about Greenland highlight a key point: the Arctic is no longer a distant, isolated region; it has become a major area where global power struggles are taking place. This comes alongside Russia's continued military expansion in the Arctic region," added the EU's diplomat.

She noted that "hybrid threats are becoming more frequent and intense, including activities like GPS interference, sabotage, and espionage." Kallas emphasized that in reaction, "European allies are enhancing their security efforts in the Arctic, and the European Union is prepared to contribute."
