French Parliament backs a bill to restart local nuclear power industry

The French National Assembly voted in favor of a plan that will restart the nation's nuclear power industry and enable it to build new reactors more quickly, as reported on the parliament website.

The measure will streamline the application process for the six new nuclear reactors' building permits. Additionally, it would effectively revoke the goal of lowering France's reliance on nuclear energy to 50% by 2035, which was established during François Hollande's 2012–2017 administration.

Additionally, the law increases the trespassing prison term from one to two years. Additionally, penalties for the same offense will cost €30,000 instead of €15,000.

With 54 reactors, France has one of the largest nuclear power plant fleets in the world.
