G7 countries to speed up transition to clean energy


In order to address the current energy crisis, the G7 leaders decided to quicken the switch to renewable energy while bolstering economic stability, according to the communiqué from the Hiroshima summit.

"We stress the real and urgent need and opportunity to accelerate the transition to clean energy while enhancing energy security in order to address the current energy crisis... and achieve our common goal of zero emissions by 2050 at the latest," the statement added.

The G7 urged the International Energy Agency to provide recommendations on how to diversify energy supplies, essential minerals, and sustainable energy production before the end of the year.

The goal of having a totally or mostly carbon-free energy sector by 2030 was reiterated.
