Merz stated that they are focused on identifying partners globally who share similar thoughts and approaches.

He pointed out that it is no longer possible to separate foreign and economic policies and criticized the US tariffs.

If the Americans think that they should use their tariff policy to influence the whole world, and if they believe that tariffs are more important than their own domestic taxes, then that is, of course, their own decision.  "But that is not our policy," the Chancellor continued.

Merz stated that Europeans will not accept US tariffs and are prepared to impose their own retaliatory actions.  He thinks that European nations have shown they can work together in response to the disagreement regarding US claims to Greenland, which is an autonomous territory belonging to Denmark.
