GAVI needs at least $5.2 billion in additional funding for its COVAX vaccine equitable distribution initiative, according to the announcement, "to respond to emerging challenges and ensure equitable vaccination in countries."

3.7 billion of this will be used to produce 600 million vaccine doses for emergencies, booster shortages, and the manufacturing of updated vaccinations against new virus types for the world's poorest countries. One billion dollars will go toward drug preparation and delivery to countries, with another $545 million going toward vaccination distribution.

"In just over a year, COVAX has distributed over 1 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines. Given all of the recognized hurdles in 2021, this is an exceptional achievement in global public health.

I'd like to express my gratitude to our donors for making this possible. By changing our support in 2022, we can help shatter COVID-19 by ensuring speedy dose utilization, safe delivery, nation preference, and coverage targets. GAVI CEO Seth Berkley stated, "This will assist the globe decrease pandemic risk and uncertainty."
