India to invest $ 1.46 trillion in economic recovery after pandemic


Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the country has succeeded in containing the coronavirus pandemic and announced $ 1.46 trillion in infrastructure projects to support the economy, the Associated Press reports.

During his speech on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of India's independence from Great Britain, Modi said that the authorities have identified 7,000 infrastructure projects with which they expect to offset the economic blow from the pandemic.

In addition, the Indian prime minister said that three vaccines in the country are at different stages of testing, and they will go into mass production as soon as scientists give permission.

According to the American Johns Hopkins University, over 2.5 million cases of COVID-19 have been registered in India, more than 49 thousand people have died. The country ranks third in the world in the number of detected cases of infection and death.
